چکیده

i Preface The report deals with development of reduced kinetic mechanisms for ammonia oxidation that can be used for CFD modeling of NO x formation in biomass combustors. A computer code CARM was tested for generation of the reduced mechanisms. Berkeley. We want to thank him for supplying us with the code, as well as helping us to get started. The report firstly describes shortly the general method for developing of the reduced mechanisms. Secondly, the development of the CO/H 2 /NH 3 /O 2 mechanism is described, and its performance is evaluated by comparing its predictions to full chemistry results and to results by alternative reduced mechanisms. Finally, the applicability of the mechanism is discussed in CFD calculations. The work has been a part of the project No. 203 " Models for simulation of combustion and pollutants " of the CODE Technology Programme that was initiated by the National Technology Agency in Finland (Tekes).

Multi-Dimensional Modeling of the Effects of Split Injection Scheme on Combustion and Emissions of Direct-Injection Diesel Engines at Full Load State

One of the important problems in reducing pollutant emission from diesel engines is trade-off between soot and NOx. Split injection is one of the most powerful tools that decrease soot and NOx emissions simultaneously. At the present work, the effect of split injection on the combustion process and emissions of a direct-injection diesel engine under full-load conditions is investigated by the c...

Numerical modeling of pollutant emissions in practical combustion systems using detailed chemical kinetics

Pollutant emissions from combustion systems are a major area of concern with today’s energy needs. Numerical simulations have helped with the design of clean and efficient combustion strategies over the years. However, with the emergence of new fuels and combustion modes, it is necessary to improve the computational models. In this research, improved NOx and soot models are developed which uses...

CFD ANALYSIS OF NOx FORMATION IN WASTE-TO-ENERGY SYSTEMS USING DETAILED CHEMICAL KINETIC MODELING

This study was undertaken to better understand the governing processes and reaction conditions under which NOx is produced in Waste to Energy (WtE) boilers. A three dimensional CFD model was created and calculated using the GRI 3.0, 50 species, 309 step detailed chemical kinetic model (DCKM) for methane/ethane combustion. Model results for primary NOx emissions and other pollutants agree well w...

Numerical Investigation on the Effect of Injection Timing on Combustion and Emissions in a DI Diesel Engine at Low Temperature Combustion Condition

One promising way to achieve low temperature combustion regime is the use of a large amount of cooled EGR. In this paper, the effect of injection timing on low temperature combustion process and emissions were investigated via three dimensional computational fluid dynamics (CFD) procedures in a DI diesel engine using high EGR rates. The results show when increasing EGR from low levels to levels...

Measurements and Modeling of Flue Height Influence on Air Pollution Emissions and Thermal Efficiency of Natural Draught Gas Fired Boilers

This paper presents and analyses results from experimental and CFD work undertaken on a 24 kW domestic natural-draught gas fired boiler. The effect of chimney height on boiler flue gases is being considered to address the need for increasing concern over environmental safety as well as saving of energy. A multi-component analysis computer (DELTA 2000 CD) is used to analyze the flue gases. 3D nu...
